Asking whether a candidate is cheating with AI fails to address the real issues that companies have.
If interview questions can be easily answered by AI, what are we truly assessing? In the realm of Software Engineering, existing resources like ‘Cracking the Coding Interview’ and Interview Cake already equip candidates for FANG-style interview loops.
Companies need to reassess their interview process and rethink what information they truly want to uncover about a candidate. Adjusting the process can better unveil crucial insights.
Some of the most effective technical interviews I’ve experienced as a candidate involved engaging in mini projects beyond scoped, leetcode style questions.
Whether with existing code or APIs, these projects allowed me to showcase problem-solving approaches, planning ability, communication skills, and even provided a glimpse of what collaboration with me would be like.
Let’s shift our focus and enhance the hiring process by evaluating candidates without imposing artificial restrictions.
